Tips for Selecting an Online Poker Room
One of the battles you need to conquer when you’re playing poker is choosing the right poker table. When you’re playing in an online poker room there are several stats which will help you figure out what tables will work for your playing style. In order to find out what tables to look for though, you’re going to need to find out what type of poker player you are. If you’re a tight poker player then you want to play on a loose everest poker table typically and if you’re a loose player then you might want to play on a mixed table or tight table depending on how much money you’re looking to make.
In most online poker rooms there are a few stats in the poker lobby that you can use to determine what type of players are playing on that poker table. One of the stats is the average pot size which shows you how big the average pot is one the table. When the average pot size is a large number compared to the rest it’s a loose table and when the pot size is low compared to the rest then it will typically be a fairly tight table.
Another stat that you can use to your advantage is the amount of players who are seeing the pot on an average hand. If the number of players seeing the flop is high then there are generally quite a few loose players on the table and vice versa when the number of players is small. The last stat most online poker rooms show you isn’t as good as a stat to use, but it will still give you some insight. The last stat shows you how many hands have been played per hour on average. If you like the speed of the game on Full Tilt Poker to be quick then you can use this stat to find a table playing a lot of hands per hour.
Some newer online poker rooms offer new features which allow you to tag poker players as you play against them. You can add them to friend’s lists in the poker room and with some tools you can even make a list of fish players that light up in the poker lobby in some poker rooms when you play. This is ideal for using if you play a lot of online poker because then you can play against players you recognize and can beat.
It doesn’t take very long for you to check out the poker tables at the limit you want to play quickly before you play and it could mean the difference between winning and losing. A lot of players will just jump on a poker table without checking out any stats or watching how anyone on the table plays. This often leads to the player getting in trouble early on in the session because he wasn’t prepared. Another thing I didn’t suggest earlier is that you should take your seat on the table, but instead of playing right away sit out for a round or if the big blind is far enough away just wait for the big blind to come to you before playing.
